“Help others and give something back. I guarantee you will discover that while public service improves lives and the world around you, its greatest reward is the enrichment and new meaning it will bring your own life.” – Arnold Schwarzenegger
The HP Foundation was established to provide grants to several progressive causes. For the past three years, HP Foundation is seen making a difference to about 40% of the youth in Tunisia with their job-creation project called “Mashrou3i”. The foundation has teamed up with UNIDO (United Nations Industrial Development Organization) and USAID the Italian Development Corporation to foster and develop entrepreneurship and support sprouting business owners. The five-year program is now in its second phase and aims to create about 6,000 jobs and reach out to more than 25,000 already established entrepreneurs in Tunisia.
The participants are mentored to sharpen their technical skills besides having access to HP’s online program called HP LIFE. The program features 27 interactive modules that cover IT and business skills in seven different languages. The courses have benefited around 640,000 people across 200 countries. The first phase of the program has already created about 1250 jobs and 160 companies (startups). About 12,000 Tunisian nationals took part in the HP LIFE courses. Around 1400 entrepreneurs inclusive of women were trained in improving and finalizing their business plans. A contribution of nearly $1 million in cash and technological amenities were provided by HP and HP Foundation. With this influx, the organization aims to expand staff and grow the project geographically into the remote areas of Tunisia as well. The stakeholders of the foundation are confident that the second phase of their project will trigger a continuous partnership and foster employment opportunities for the youth in Tunisia.
