Steps to download the HP printer drivers for Windows 8
- The HP printer driver download is available at 123.hp.com/driver download – click on the link for the latest version
- Using the USB connection to download and install a driver
- The cable between the printer and the computer should be disconnected
- The printer model has to be identified
- Follow on-screen instructions to go to the driver download page
- For a full-feature driver, click on Download
- For install and use of the Windows built-in driver
- Windows 8 can be set to automatically download the driver software:
- Click on Change Device Installation settings on the control panel
- Within the device installation window, select Yes
- Click on Save Changes
- Detect the printer during driver installation – connecting both the printer and the computer
- For USB connection to your computer:
- Turn the printer on
- Use the USB cable to connect the HP printer and the computer through the USB Port
- The Found New Hardware window is displayed
- Print a test page by following any additional prompts
- For a wireless connection – using the wireless setup wizard:
- Gather the SSID, WEP key or WPA pass phrase
- Connect all the devices – the computer, printer and router to the wireless network
- On the printer’s control panel, click on Setup
- Then click on Network and scroll down to the Wireless Setup Wizard
- Follow the instructions to connect the printer to the network
- Install the print driver with the Add a Printer wizard
- For a wired or wireless connection
- Click on Devices and Printers
- Select Add a Printer
- Click on Add a network then Wireless
- Choose your printer name if the printer is on the list
- Click on Next
- Select your printer port on Use an existing port and then click on Next
- Wait for the printer drivers to update once you click on Windows Update
- Select the manufacturer’s details when prompted and in the Printers window click on your computer’s name and then click on Next
- Select the Add a network and then Wireless
- Click on The Printer that I want isn’t listed
- Select Add a Printer using TCP/IP address
- Click on Next
- Under the Device Type list, click on AutoDetect
- Click on Next after you add your printer’s IP address in the box
- To install the printer driver click on Next
